Southard Street Repaved

Our street has been entirely refurbished from White Street to Duval Street.

A great side benefit is that our view from the front porch is improved, as there are now four scooter parking spaces by the Gumbo Limbo tree, instead of a car or truck parking space.  There are seldom that many scooters parking in our area.

We Are in Key West for 4 Weeks

Tiffani and I made it to the island at 7:15PM on December 14th, running three hours late due to a fatality on US-1 near Mile Marker 62.  We had a great 2-month renter, who checked out the same morning.

Christmas decorations were finished the next day.

After Irma

The picture of the house on the main page of this website was taken today, after pressure washing around the house was completed.

Hurricane Irma damage was limited to two 3-inch diameter Christmas Palm Trees falling onto the kitchen roof.

Picture above was taken from the roof over the bunk room.
Picture below taken after Irma.  Note the porch boxes being intact.

Hurricane Irma Stats

Peak winds of 91 mph, but the Key West Airport recorder was destroyed during landfall at Cudjoe Key.

Introduction

Welcome to our site, bringing you the history of 707 Southard Street, Key West, Florida.  We are Mike and Tiffani Green, and have owned this conch house since April 4, 2013.

Our house has been featured in two different books over the years, Mary Emmerling’s American Country Cottages and Key West Gardens and Their Stories by Janis Frawley-Holler.  Copies of these books are kept in the house for our renter’s perusal.

Emmerling’s book refers to the front portion of the house existing since 1860, and describes the property with pictures in an 8-page spread.  The Janis Frawley-Holler book illustrates the vegetation at the property in the late 1990s, and refers to our property as “A Caribbean Fling”.

Tiffani and I noticed the property being listed on the Key West Properties blog.

It had been previously listed in April, 2012 on the same blog at a lower price.

In a May, 2013 post, our house ended up being the most expensive sold at a per square foot price in the “selling season”, which lasts from Christmas through April.
